Stewardship Emphasis Month
Put God First
This is Stewardship Emphasis month at Providence. It is a time when we focus on being good stewards of what God has given us. It is a time when we honor God through our tithes and offerings. It is a time when we put God first! Please read the story of the widow and Elijah (1st Kings 17:10-16). When we put God first, He gives us everything we need. Proverb 3:9-10 tells us “to honor the Lord with our substance and with the first fruit of our increase—so shall your barns be filled with plenty…” Matthew 6:33 says, “Seek the kingdom of God first and His righteousness and all you need will be added.” When we put God first we learn that giving is not a money matter but an attitude of the heart.
The widow put God first by feeding Elijah and then God opened up heaven and gave her a blessing that was above anything she could ask or think. Just like the widow, we need to remember that it is God who gives us everything we have. God is going to test us to see if we truly want the things God has for us. Nothing tests our faith more in God, than our possessions and our money. The only time God says to put Him to the test is when it comes to being faithful in our tithes and offerings to the Lord. You see when we give, we help the Lord to bring others into God’s family. How we give determines how much we trust God and whether or not He is first in our lives. Let these scriptures encourage us to keep our stewardship commitment of giving our resources (tithes and offerings) and ourselves to Christ. For the same grace that sustained the widow is still available to sustain us as well.
Put God first in your giving and allow His amazing grace to bless us more than we can imagine.
